BE RESPONSIBLE

The fastest way to get to the top of your career ladder is to get your next promotion as soon as possible.

To get your next promotion as soon as possible you must win the heart of your boss and if there is one thing that your boss is looking for, it is a subordinate who is responsible. While you might pray for promotion all night, remember prayer alone cannot get you the needed promotion.

It only takes a responsible person to be recognized for promotion. David was a responsible shepherd boy and when it was time for God to appoint a king for his people in Israel, they couldn’t seat until he came in.

I need you to understand this, responsible subordinates are proactive. In other words, they take charge of situations and don’t just react to things when they happen. Responsible subordinates always act in the best interest of their employer, their boss, and their organization.

They usually have this interesting habit of accepting responsibility for the goals, the vision, and the target of the organization. They then develop the capacity to deliver those goals and most importantly they do so gladly.

Responsible subordinates are usually careful with their organization’s resources and they take care of those resources as though they own them. That’s why you will never hear a responsible subordinate use statement like, “is it my father’s business?” or even think thoughts like “let me use their paper and ink for my use”. Such thoughts just never cross the mind of responsible subordinates because they see themselves as trustees of the organization's scarce resources. Sometimes even when it seems like those resources aren’t scarce at all!

That’s why you would find out that, the responsible subordinate would rather print draft copies of letters on the overleaf of used paper rather than print draft copies on fresh sheets of paper.

They don’t spend official time on personal issues like unnecessary personal telephone calls or just idle chats or hanging out on social media on official time or even receiving legions of private visitors at work. No! No!! No!!!

Responsible subordinate usually can admit their mistakes when they’ve gone wrong and move on from there, having seen a better way to handle the challenge the next time it shows up. They are not too proud to say “I’m sorry” and they usually would work on the things they can influence, while they ignore the things that they can’t change.

Accepting responsibility is not a problem to them whilst others are looking and searching for who else to blame for everything that has gone wrong. Responsible people take charge of their lives and their future. They understand the cause and effect principle which can also be known as the Law of Seed Time and Harvest. This means that they tend to determine what exactly they want to harvest in the future and then choose to sow the right seeds now. They recognize that their actions determine their results and would not seek to find someone else to blame for the pace at which their career rises.

Do you realize that the word RESPONSIBILITY is made up of three words? Think about it; RESPONSE, I, and ABILITY. This means on one hand that I can respond but even more profoundly it means I accept the responsibility to respond to my ability. It, therefore, means that I need you to remember that everything you need to get to the top of your career is already inside you and you only simply need to respond to your ability to reach the top of your career faster than the world ever imagined.

''Proverbs 22:29: Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men''. Observe people who are good at their work, skilled workers are always in demand and admired. They don’t take a backseat to anyone.

In the end, it’s all up to you and every boss desires a responsible subordinate for the very simple reason that they take charge of their future and then they determine what to do right now to deliver that future.

So if you must rise as you should, to this challenge of getting to the top of your career in the shortest possible time you must therefore win the heart and appraisal of your boss and to do that, BE RESPONSIBLE.
