What Does Love Mean To You?
The word 'love' has been so debauched by many that most people no longer know how to separate an act of love from the lustful desires of the flesh (sex).
While love can be defined as an intense feeling of deep affection for someone geared towards romance, however, love goes beyond that, as we can see from the Urban dictionary's assertion below that "LOVE Is The Act Of CARING and GIVING To Someone Else''. Having someone's BEST INTEREST and WELLBEING as a Priority in your life. To truly love is a very selfless act."
Valentine's season is just around the corner and you won't believe how misled a lot of people are about the reason for Valentine's day. A lot of people have been hoodwinked to assume that valentine's day is a day set aside for lovers (including unmarried lovers) to explore their sexual prowess, excite each other with romantic poems and sex arousing messages, but in reality, the message of valentine's day is far from such depravity.
While I wouldn't want to bore you with the essence of Valentine's day as that is not what this blog post is about, however, it is important to note that capitalizing on this season to take satisfaction in sexual activities will only leave you with regrets after the season is gone with all its brouhaha.
Now, let's get back to the crux of the matter, shall we? It is not out of point to acknowledge the fact that love can be characterized by some feeling of the sort, especially for a person of the opposite sex, but we must not limit our ability to love to just that, love goes beyond mere feeling for someone to truly desiring to see the person become a better version of himself or herself. That said, you cannot claim to love someone when you make them defile the temple of God (their body).
If you say you love someone, it has to be seen in your actions. I don't know about other clans, but in this part of the world, a lot of persons have made the words love and sex seem like they are synonyms. And for this reason, a lot of people have lost belief in humanity as some can not even show little acts of kindness without asking for something (sex) in return.
What Does LOVE Mean To You?
To some, it is a means of using what you have to get what you want, it is purely a transactional adventure where they can only keep giving as long as they know that there is something to gain, while to some others, it is a way of improving humanity and helping it find healing from all the evils and disasters that have bedeviled it.
The problem with the former is not that they are bad people per se, but that they have a negative stance about what love should be, while the latter is a set of people who have seen how evil sick the world is and have chosen to avail themselves for its healing and recovery. They have a healthy outlook on love.
Love is not meant to be shown only on valentine's day. GOD is Love and as such expects us to not only show love but also walk in love every day. Love is a universal language that can be heard and understood by all, even the deafest of all hears and understands the language of love.
Love is what unites and keeps us together as a people, and its sound is heard in the little acts of kindness that we litter here and there. Jesus is a perfect example of what love truly should be. The Bible recorded of Him that He went about doing good and healing all manner of sicknesses. In other words, anywhere Jesus went, he let the Light of His Love shine on others, everyone who came in contact with Him felt the aura of His Loving presence. He never withheld any good thing from anyone no matter how unworthy the person seemed, He was passionate about always leaving people better than He met them, and till now, His Love is the reason the world is not completely broken. His Love is not discriminatory, and today, we are advised to walk in His footsteps.
As I bring this writing to a wrap, I want you to take a pause for a moment and think of how you can help improve humanity, starting from the people in your small circle by showing love to them.
Remember, Love is an action and this action doesn't have to be big, it could be in the smallest of things such as lending a helping hand to someone in need or lending someone your shoulders to cry on. It could also be something as minute as sharing that plate of food with someone who has woken up today not knowing where his/her meal for the day will come from or simply calling to know how that fellow is fairing today. It could even just be something as small as sharing bed space with that homeless friend/relative or helping that old woman/man on your street out with his/her laundry. It could also be something as minor as getting school sandals for that poor orphan girl in your neighborhood or simply helping someone find direction in their career and life in general. Whatever it is, go right on and do it.
As inconsequential as these things may seem, you never can tell how many people are depending on that little act of kindness for their survival. No act of LOVE is small especially when it is from a pure heart.
So, whatever you can do today and every other day of your life to spread the LOVE of GOD to humanity, don't hesitate to do it.
Remember GOD is LOVE
This is a well timed message.
ReplyDeleteThe Word LOVE has truly been misunderstood and is time we correct the wrong notion.
