THE ROLE OF MEDIA IN THE CHURCH

In this century and age where everyone is going tech-savvy and the media world is becoming the trend and call, how well is the church utilizing this platform to spread the gospel of Christ? How is the church taking over the world using the online platform which is the major trend and call in this age? These are questions that Christians and believers need to answer in the quest to bridge the gap.

The media of any firm or organization is the marketing department. They practically act as the middle man in any firm and extension in church. The first question JESUS asked in Matthew 16: 13-19 is very key….

Who do people say I am and in extension who do the media say JESUS is?

What do the media portray of CHRIST?

What picture do the media paint of Christ?

With the fast growth in the media world today, there are lots of contents and wrong expressions that are against the doctrine of the Bible which in turn gives the Lord a bad name which we as Christians need to pay close attention to and correct. Jesus said to Peter “upon this rock, I will build my church”, the rock here signifies the confessions we make.

What confessions do we make on social media as Christians?

What message do you share on your social media platforms?

Are you a different person online and another person entirely in your place of work and residence?

You don’t necessarily have to mount the pulpit before you spread the message, your social media account is a unique and easy platform on its own to capture more audience at greater speed.

How well do you use your social media platforms?

Most of the unbelievers we follow on social media post all sorts of unpalatable and secular content which might not necessarily impact you positively yet gain an audience, but we as Christians find it difficult or feel sluggish to use that same data to share the good news of Christ, at least few minutes a day.

What is the essence of the church?

The church as a building and as a church (ourselves), should inculcate the attitude of using every means available to spread the word, which is the vital essence of the Church. It doesn’t have to be the regular morning cry or outreach and evangelism. You can teach with all things, you can showcase Christ in your lifestyle, your words, your actions, your day-to-day activities… IN ALL THINGS TEACH CHRIST, Matthew 28:19 & 20.

How well are the messages you are reading or sharing edifying God? Romans 10: 14 & 15

Many people feel that the media world is where they are supposed to have fun, entertain themselves, relieve stress, and catch all the fun, so many feel they can post anything, comment on anything, and read anything thereby throwing caution to the wind. The Bible isn’t wrong when it urged us to protect our heart diligently and mind what we read and assimilate so as not to corrupt our heart and mind.

Whatever we see or hear has ways of influencing our mind, which can ruin our acts and deeds. Mind what you spread and listen to so as not to sway from your relationship and stand with CHRIST due to incessant unfruitful discussions and messages.

We as Christians need to gain confidence in sharing the message of Christ. We need to stay at the forefront and push the WORD OF GOD and be bold enough to defend this word, we need to be grounded in it and study the word with all diligence. One wrong post online can either MAR or MAKE one's life. Some people are not internally strong so, they can easily be influenced by happenings and posts made by others.

What are you digesting online and what are you are sharing?

Your platform is a powerful channel to share the word and reach greater lives. The mandate of the gate of hell: John 10:10. Anything that will want to be a gate of hell in your life should be cut off and treated as a threat. It can be your phone, your friends, or even the people you are following online. The gate of hell is very strategic, it uses your weaknesses or challenges to tempt you and that’s why you need to be very ALERT especially in social media. Be proud to share and proclaim CHRIST ONLINE. The gate of hell we wrestle against is not just flesh and blood, it is spiritual. Who do you say Christ is on your platform?

In reality, Christians need to buckle up and put on the whole armor especially in the media world, Ephesians 6:12. We do not war according to the flesh, 2nd Corinthians 10:3-5. How well do you defend the Lord in your online platform?
